Here are the steps:
1. Student finds a position which is a candidate for an
internship.
(Use the Robinson Career Management Center to help you find an IT-related position or
find an IT-related position independently)
- Undergraduates can contact Cynetta
Freeman in the
Robinson Career
Management Center for assistance.
- Graduate students can contact Sharon
Cohen in the
Robinson Career Management Center for assistance.
2. A CIS faculty member must approve
the internship.
- Walter Rich, internship
coordinator in the CIS Department, can provide the "request for
authorization" form or get one here:
Link to CIS 4970 Authorization Form
Link to CIS 8391 Authorization Form
* undergraduate students would be getting authorization for
CIS 4970 Field Study in Computer Information Systems
* graduate students would be getting authorization for
CIS 8391 Field Study in Computer Information Systems
A clear understanding of the internship
needs to be documented and discussed with the CIS faculty member. Example provided:
Proposal example
3. After approval is given by a CIS
faculty member, the student will be cleared to register for the
field study class,
either
CIS 4970 or
CIS 8391
- Class registration is during normal registration periods - so the
student must prepare (get a job and CIS faculty approval) BEFORE
registration ends for that working internship semester.
4. Note that the field study classes
have tasks which must be performed during the internship.
- Walter Rich, internship
coordinator in the CIS Department, can help answer questions.
