I. Certificate in Information Systems : Graduate students

The Graduate Certificate in Information Systems program is designed for students in any graduate major who wish to prepare to meet business and personal challenges through the use of information technology. From biology and the health sciences through the arts, social sciences, legal and business disciplines information systems are a fundamental enabler.  Add this I.S. knowledge component to your intellectual toolkit for building successful careers. 

Admission to the Graduate Certificate in Computer Information Systems program is subject to the minimum Georgia State University and RCB cumulative grade-point-average requirement for RCB graduate programs.  Also, students must be qualified for admission to a masters program in the Robinson College of Business.  If you are not a current Robinson student, and seek only the certificate, you still must apply for admission to Robinson - meeting normal admission requirements to be accepted into the Robinson College.

Obtaining the Graduate Certificate in Computer Information Systems requires completion of any three CIS 8000 level courses.  In addition, you must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 for the three courses, with all grades a B- or higher.  Please be aware that some of these courses have prerequisites and other requirements for enrollment. There are no additional fees required for the Graduate Certificate in Computer Information Systems.

How to request the certificate:  After receiving grades for all the courses to be counted in the Graduate Certificate, e-mail the following information to Dr. Carl Stucke at cstucke@gsu.edu:

1.      Name as shown in the GSU registration office.

2.      Student number as shown in the GSU registration office.

3.      List of the three courses shown above that have been taken.

4.      The semester each of the three courses were taken.

5.      The grade for each of the three courses.

6.      The postal address to which the Graduate Certificate should be mailed.

After confirming the requirements have been met, a Graduate Certificate will be mailed within two months.  Questions about the Graduate Certificate in Computer Information Systems should be e-mailed to Dr. Carl Stucke, Associate Chair for Computer Information Systems at cstucke@gsu.edu .

 
II. Certificate in Information Systems : Undergraduate students
 

The Certificate in Information Systems is designed for students in any undergraduate major who wish to prepare to meet business and personal challenges through the use of information technology.   From accounting, marketing, and management through the arts, biology and the health sciences, legal and many other disciplines, information systems are a fundamental enabler.  Add this I.S. knowledge component to your intellectual toolkit for building successful careers.  For more information, see the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projections on information systems related careers (http://www.bls.gov/oco/ ).

A student taking courses to qualify for the Certificate in Information Systems is still subject to the minimum Georgia State University and RCB cumulative grade-point-average requirement for entrance into RCB upper-level classes. Obtaining the Certificate in Information Systems requires completion of any three of the following courses (this list is subject to change -- usually through courses being added.  Please check with cstucke@gsu.edu if you wish to use a CIS course not shown here as part of your certificate.

CIS 3001 – Managing Information Technology Projects
CIS 3300 – Systems Analysis (identify what a system needs to do)
CIS 3310 – Systems Design (decide how the system will do this)

CIS 3320 – Telecommunications For Business

CIS 3730 – Database Management Systems

CIS 4000 – Introduction to Computer Forensics

CIS 4120 – Defining and Innovating Business Processes

CIS 4300 – Software Quality Management

CIS 4700 - Managing IT Project Risk, Vendors and Contracts

CIS 4620 – Management of Information Services

CIS 4680 – Introduction to Security & Privacy

In addition, you must have a grade point average of at least 3.0 for the three courses, with all grades a B- or higher.  Please be aware that some of these courses have prerequisites and other requirements for enrollment.
