Course Description:
This
course addresses the many management issues unique to the information services
function within organizations.
Coverage includes information systems planning, managing the information
infrastructure, justifying information technology investments, the costing of
services and networks, evaluating information system performance, alternative
information service delivery modes, managing distributed and end-user computing,
project and operations management, systems security, and the management of
information technology professionals.
Course Objectives:
The
objective of this course is to provide an understanding of the issues involved
in the management of computer-based information systems within organizations and
to provide students with specific means of addressing them.
Grading and
Evaluation:
The
class will be conducted in a lecture/discussion mode with heavy emphasis on the
classroom participation of the students.
It is expected that all assigned readings will have been done prior to
class and that students are prepared to discuss them in class. Classes will start promptly at 4:30
p.m., and attendance is required for all classes. There will be a mid-term, a final
examination, and a term paper discussing some aspect of IS management. No make-up exams will be offered. The grading will be as
follows:
